Ignite Release Blog Tour: An Interview with Jenna Terese!

I am so incredibly excited to welcome you all here today to celebrate the release of my wonderful friend, Jenna’s debut! She’s such an amazing woman and an amazing writer and I have the absolute pleasure of interviewing her today about her book, her life and her writing process! Let’s get into it.

But before we do, check out the awesome book trailer 🙂

CRH: First of all, thank you for coming on the blog, Jenna! It’s such a pleasure to have you here. To start off, can you tell us three things we might not know about you?

JT: I only like fries with nacho cheese, I will take a photo of EVERY pretty sunset I see, and I have a plant named after a book character. Super random things here. XD

Haha, I love these facts! What inspired you to write this novel?

The idea was sort of sparked by an image stuck in my head from a movie trailer and another superhero novel I tried to write but didn’t go anywhere. I become intrigued by the idea of superpowers being more common in our world, but not thought of as positively like we do.

That’s a really fascinating starting point, thanks for sharing that! What parts of this novel are drawn from your personal experience?

A lot of Scarlett’s journey about accepting all of who she is instead of letting society and pressure from others tell her whether her God-given gifts are worth keeping or not come from some of my own learning experiences. As someone with social anxiety and who is generally pretty self-conscious, it can be easy to give in to peer pressure and worry about how people see me. But all that matters is how God sees me, and if He’s given me a feature, a trait, a passion, or a gift for a purpose, there’s no reason to hide it.

The Fandom Tag

Hello all! Here I am, posting for the third week in a row, which I am incredibly proud of! How are you all doing?

Today, we’re going to be taking a look at some of my favourite fandoms. I’ve never really considered myself a fandom type of person, mainly because I’m not at all interested in the activity that makes up 95% of fandom interaction, ie shipping (and writing fanfiction about that ship). If that’s your thing, I don’t mind at all (I got my writing start by writing fanfiction, though not of the shipping kind, so I’m not biased against fanfic writers at all!) but its not my thing so I’ve never really interacted with a fandom before.

However, that does not mean at all that I don’t adore certain stories, so that’s what we’re going to be talking about today! My favourite fandoms, authors, characters and stories! What could be better?

01. What’s the first fandom you remember becoming a part of?

Narnia probably, or Black Beauty (does Black Beauty have a fandom?). Mum has been reading the Narnia books to us kids over and over again for years, and when I got old enough I started reading them myself and I’m just obsessed. I loved them as a kid and I still love them now. Black Beauty was the first novel I read by myself and I have always adored it. It’s a beautiful and moving story and it definitely ignited my passion for animals at a very young age. I have also never found a movie adaption that followed the book faithfully, or was anything other than some sentimental middle grade horse fantasy *insert derogatory word of your choice here* and I am mad. Give me some Victorian animal justice movies written by an awesome but chronically ill and disabled author please.

Also, I began listening to the How To Train Your Dragon audiobooks (read by David Tennant) when I was a wee lass and I absolutely freaking adored them, and I still do now. The movies are good, but the books are AMAZING. And there’s Cressida’s new series as well, which wasn’t published I until I was an adult, but they still feel like they were part of my childhood.

02. What’s the newest fandom you’ve come to enjoy?

I don’t know at all! Hunger Games? But I’ve enjoyed that for a few years now, have I truly joined no new fandoms since then? Harry Potter? But I wouldn’t really describe myself as in the HP fandom, I’m just obsessed with The Prisoner of Azkaban. Maybe Star Wars? I’m also not really in the fandom for that, but I really like talking about Star Wars things in an academic tone, which is pretty much my bar for entering a fandom.

Life Updates (Long Overdue Updates on Life, Love and Writing)

Heya! How are you all doing? To be honest, I’m feeling very awkward and I have no idea how to open this post, so uh… here we go.

As you may have noticed, I’ve been very absent for most of this year and quite sporadic in my posting. There’s been lots of reasons for this, work being the main one, and there’s been lots going on–some good, some bad, some mediocre, life stuff. Anyway, I’m going to break this post up into a couple of segments and we’ll break down my life over the last few months and see what I’ve been up to.

WRITING

Writing has been going pretty well. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t have a lot of time anymore so I really have to work to prioritise my writing. In December last year, I finished my novel, working titled The Darkest Night, and it’s been resting for a while (ok, who am I kidding, I’m the one resting). I am hoping to begin editing it as soon as I’ve finished the first draft for the novel I’m writing now.

Disney Princess Blog Tag

Hello there! Yep, I disappeared for a bit there (I blame work), but I’ve got a huge backlog of blog posts to get through (I’ve been given so many tags that I want to do!) so here I am today to do a random blog post!

So, Emily over at E.K. Seaver created a blog tag for writers, called the Disney Character Blog tag and she tagged me for it a few weeks months ago. Basically, here’s the rules:

  1. Link back to the tag’s creator
  2. Link back to the person who tagged you
  3. Pick 10-12 of your favourite Disney Characters
  4. Chose which of your cast of characters (whether from your current or a former WIP) reminds you of those princesses and tell us why.
  5. Tag 4-7 other people
  6. (Optional) Use the graphic I created for the tag

So…I don’t really know that many Disney characters. Weird, aren’t I? I didn’t really grow up watching Disney movies so the only ones I’ve seen are the ones my younger siblings enjoy watching. With that in mind, I decided to use the original Disney Princesses, with a few exceptions. I honestly couldn’t think of any of my characters to compare to Aurora, Snow White or Cinderella, because, if we’re being honest, they don’t have much in the way of personality. So I’ve replaced them with three other characters I like from movies I’ve actually seen.

Also, I think I’m supposed to choose one novel/cast of characters, unfortunately, I’m a rulebreaker and I don’t want to choose just one of my novels. So anything I’ve written so far is fair game! Now, let’s get into it!
